Reading:
5th graders read a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts through reading lessons. Throughout the year students will utilize the Notice and Note fiction signposts to dig deeper into texts. They will read nonfiction to research historical figures for the Wax Museum. Genre studies include fantasy, science fiction, and realistic fiction. Various themes and social issues are also explored in depth.
Writing:
5th graders participate in Writing Workshop. This workshop model provides students with opportunities to write all different types of writing. We will be focusing on opinion, argument and narrative writing which correlates with the new Common Core Standards.
